Review of The Hard Way (1991) by Michael T — 01 Feb 2009
I haven't seen this film since it came out but remember that it was a pretty good action movie that sought to turn the conventions of the "buddy cop" genre on its head as a tough NYPD detective (James Woods) is pulled off a case persuing a psychotic vigilante to escort a spoiled lightweight movie star (Michael J.
Fox) who wants a shot at playing a cop in a serious drama but no one will consider him for the role because he has been cast as a handsome "Indiana Jones" type in a popular series of lightweight action films.
This strangely mirrored Fox's own movie career, he had spent his career after FAMILY TIES ended on TV trying to break into serious drama roles but Hollywood wanted another BACK TO THE FUTURE.
