Review of The Hard Way (1991) by Corey B — 01 Aug 2010
This just didn't work for me. It feels a little too pre-packaged. All the pieces should work, and on paper it's a great idea - James Woods as the crusty cop - Michael J. Fox as the bratty Hollywood star, but it just never felt alive to me. Everything's too by the books, right down to the crazy psycho killer (Stephen Lang, who was infinitely better suited to his role in Avatar), and the doesn't-know-if-she-can-date-a-cop girlfriend.
The jokes are strained (Frog Dogs...ugh), the plot twists are visible a mile away (the Michael J. Fox killed a guy subplot is just too long for the obvious payoff), and it it's just kind of dull.
