Review of The Happytime Murders (2018) by Justin B — 27 Aug 2018

The Happytime Murders is a hilarious if not flawed ride thru a seedy world of crime, violence, and cotton stuffing.

Brian Henson's awesome directing is on display here in full force, featuring some amazing puppetry that only Henson's son could provide. I particularly was impressed by how seamless (#PunAlwaysIntended) the full body shots of the main puppets were handled, and the plethora of visual gags had me in stitches (#SeePreviousHashtag).

The story was very interesting, if not cliche, though for a noir style crime plot it hit all the right marks save for being in black and white. Felt like a gritty 90's crime drama at times in the best of ways.

I was also very surprised at the human cast involved, especially McCarthy whom I typically find grating when she is in a starring role.

This movie is certainly not for everyone, but if you are a fan of puppetry and raunchy humor this is an instant cult classic for your sensibilities!
