Review of The Happiness of the Katakuris (2002) by Ben G — 29 May 2008
Ha ha. I forgot that I had not written a review for this film. I borrowed it from the mighty Ann Sung An Lee last year and was pleasantly surprised. I could see that my years spent in Asia and my time spent in Japan (and love of Japanese cinema) gave me a different insight into the workings of the film, but regardless of that I found it insane and wonderful. Truly sarcastic, bizarre Japanese humour, insane editing, insane acting, insane story, insane animations... a movie where you basically sit through the whole thing with a question mark in your mind but if you just ride with it you'll enjoy the journey.
The "soldier" is an absolute legend.
