Review of The Hangover (2009) by Damjan R — 30 Apr 2013
This is an interesting film when it begins, but it falls apart when logical explanations are given for situations that don't merit them. We didn't really need to know why they don't remember anything and I for one expected something equal to an alien abduction type of lunacy to be the reason for their Hangover.
In these films the less you know the better, and then you can employ the characters in a new way that doesn't play the audience for suckers. Needles to say the comedy is debatable, but some situations get a laugh or two, but only because the actors bring it, and not because the script demands it, actually the film is not that funny as is, but Zach Galifianakis plays the weird absurdity perfectly.
Bradley Cooper is the breakout here off course but it's not without some gripes, but they are mostly minor, he does have a certain presence on screen and commands attention. The soundtrack is selected with a flair for the dramatic and it only adds to overall faux gangster/rockstar aesthetic.
Recommended but don't expect fireworks, just some sparks.
