Review of The Handmaiden (2016) by Kimberly N — 08 Mar 2017

I have seen this film three times now, and I love it a little more every time I view it. If you are one for dark and twisted films, you must see this masterpiece from Park Chan-wook. If you think a film can't simultaneously be a love story AND a demented and violent exploration of imprisonment AND a mesmerizing crime/revenge drama AND perverse erotica, well... this movie will prove you wrong within a captivating and visually lush environment. This film will be one of my favorites of all time for so many reasons. The plot moves fast, and takes you on a bunch of surprising turns. Every little thing that is going on and everything you see has unexpected meaning that will be explored later. Character development is phenomenal. Cinematography is gorgeous. What's not to love?
