Review of The Handmaiden (2016) by Craig T — 27 Feb 2017
Another amazing production from celebrated Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook. I've been a fan of his since Oldboy and Lady Vengeance, and it's great to see him continue with his Hitchcockian blend of suspense, eroticism, and raw emotion.
His directing was combined with a powerful score and rich cinematography that alluded to the story's original Victorian setting. This is not to mention the fantastic acting and chemistry between the two female leads, Tae-ri Kim and Min-hee Kim. I'm disappointed that, due to political reasons, this wasn't the Korean submission for Best Foreign Language Film, because I believe it would've been a serious contender.
