Review of The Hallow (2015) by Kirstie K — 17 May 2017
This film could have been so much better. The legends are right, but the development in how to make it come to life was sloppy. The wife was downright annoying by the end. Could have used more information (a flashback) into exactly what happened with Cora, and a little more explanation into the myths of the changelings, because there's a lot more to it than was portrayed, particularly in why they take children. It's not just to take what you love - there are numerous reasons given - that they lack the ability to feed their babies so switch them so that a human mother can do so, or that they needed to bring fresh life into their group to survive, etc.
All in all not a horrible film? Just could have been better.
*spoiler*.
Also, woman, your husband is screaming at you that your kid is a changeling, yet you don't even take a moment to place one of those iron objects you have lying around into his hand? It would have saved the 'oh no which baby is mine' moment later in the woods. Also, if you weren't sure, take both! One of them would croak when the sun came up.
