Review of The Guns of Navarone (1961) by Alan W — 15 May 2008
Awesome World War II popcorn action flick. One of the first Alistair MacLean novels to be turned into a major movie picture, and maybe the best. Filled with all the bombast and flair of the era, with Peck, Quinn, and Niven capably leading a daring mission to destroy massive Nazi cannons built into the side of a mountain.
Conflict from within, conflict from the Nazis, and an impossible mission to boot. An epic.
