Review of The Guilt Trip (2012) by James H — 07 Apr 2013
The Guilt Trip...
For the first half hour I thought to myself "Babs, Dame Babs, Queen Babs, how could you? why did you? Papa, can you save me?".
Thankfully, it got better; but only just.
Failings? Plot and dialogue. Judging by the outtakes during the end credits, I presume a lot of the script was improvised - and it showed. Flashes of humour lost amid a sea of blandness.
The stars try to rise above the mediocrity and at times shine (particularly Streisand, during the poignant mother-son exchanges) but the farce is forced and the lines are lame.
A sequel is being muted. Being a blind follower of The Jewish Princess, no doubt I will be in attendance. However, I hope they get a better writer and script editor.
Otherwise, it's back to pruning your rosebush, Babs.
