Review of The Guilt Trip (2012) by Sarfaraz A — 23 Apr 2013
The Guilt Trip directed by Anne Fletcher, screenplay written by Dan Fogelman, executive-producers Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand. Starring Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen.
Andy (Seth Rogen) is a postgraduate in chemistry. He takes his widowed mother Joyce (Barbara Streisand) on a cross-country road-trip, while also marketing his product, which is environmental-friendly cleaning fluid. Andy being irritant of his mother, asks her to join him, so that he could reunite her with her old boyfriend.
Seth Rogen is a talented writer, his writing can be equalized with Steve Martin; his dialogues are reliant on his voice-throw - Rogen extremely held the dramatic part of the character, while also realizing that essence of comedy was a potential demand to raise this film; which sadly, was the big mistake on part of the writers to include. Barbara Streisand returns after many years in lead character; to me her performance seemed very mature and timely. She knew the criteria of comedy and hence kept her character within.
Unfortunately movie fails to leave big result of its easy-going plot, it seemed nothing was determinant till the end. Do not expect anything from this movie, it's shallow and contain nothing to energize you.
