Review of The Guilt Trip (2012) by Sean D — 30 Apr 2013
I don't get it, this time only 38% of critics liked it...Really? Well the heck with them because this film was WONDERFUL, touching, sweet, and the chemistry between Barbara Streisand and Seth Rogen was great.
This is the type of movie with a perfect combination and balance of drama and comedy. We have a guy in his I believe very late 20's (Andy Brewster) that is smart, educated and has created a cleaning product safe enough to drink.
The problem is that he does not know how to market it, how to sell it. Nearly bankrupt, he gives a final try and plans a road trip where he will pitch the product to several companies and he decides to invite his darling mother Joyce (B.
Streisand) along for the ride. It is precisely during that road trip that each learns so much from the other (well more the son from his mother), the scene in the motel room where the mother puts Andy in his place was right on target! Also the visit to Joyce's old flame in San Francisco was very touching.
Folks this is a solid, uplifting motion picture where two human beings learn to face their fears and rely on one another. The steak eating contest was so funny, and a brief stop along the Grand Canyon was memorable.
You WILL laugh, you WILL cry and if your mother or parents are still alive then watch this movie!! BRAVO TO THE CAST AND CREW of Guilt Trip because it is a great film! RECOMMENDED all the way!!
