Review of The Guilt Trip (2012) by Marischa B — 23 May 2013
I actually really liked this film when I saw it on a plane. I remembered rolling my eyes initially when I saw the trailer, because I thought it would be an empty string of mama jokes. But actually, the movie is good clean fun and has a lot of heart.
It was enjoyable to watch the characters grow throughout the film in a natural way. The mom and son have a strong relationship despite their superficial conflicts, and they learn a lot about each other through the trip.
I'm disappointed at seeing the bad reviews; maybe some people just don't have the same views on the importance of family ties and can't relate. I think that's too bad. Both Streisand and Rogen do a good job in this film.
It was a pleasant surprise! Watch it with your mom or on Mother's Day! For those people that think it's shamefully unrealistic for moms to watch videos or look at baby pics every now and then of their adult children, why don't you take the time to call up your mom and see what she says? Most moms love their children and show it in different ways.
Though Joyce Brewster is an over-the-top character, I'm sure that most moms have a little bit of her somewhere. :) It was fun to see this film.
