Review of The Guilt Trip (2012) by Ana B — 12 May 2014
Road movie with touches of drama and comedy. Andy Brewster is an organic chemist that has invented a new cleaning product and is trying to sell it to different retailers. After a disappointing pitch and before going on a selling trip he visits his over worrying mother and she tells him that he was named after her first love. Andy investigates the whereabouts of the man and decides to surprise his mother by inviting her to accompany him in his journey and at the end meet Mr. Andrew Margolis, but without her knowing. On the road Andy and Joyce talk, bond and fight over their relationship and meet some interesting characters.
A well meant film this is the story of a strong attachment between mother and son. As it happens I didn't see a lot of guilt. The actors are good and the plot ok but the script is flawed, it needs more action, more drama, stronger dialogues and an explanation as why is he still single and how does he manage to get his pitch straight after so many failures. This self-discovery journey is a bit too sweet and easy.
