One of my personal favorites of 2014. "The Guest" is directed by Adam Wingard, same director of "You're Next". It's a kick ass throwback to 80's action/thrillers with a few Horror elements thrown in there.
Like his last film ("You're Next"), this is a homage that some people can't truly appreciate for what it is. "The Guest" has a simple plot with simple characters that has subtle genre references and style.
The awesome soundtrack fits the 80's style perfectly and despite the ending a lot of people are complaining about, it makes more sense if you realize what film is referenced. Definitely worth a look for those who can appreciate this film style.
In other words, if you didn't like (understand) "You're Next", skip it.
