Review of The Guardian (2006) by Lawrence B — 22 May 2016
Better-than-expected (if overlong) inspirational teacher-wayward student drama with Kevin Costner as a decorated rescue swimmer knocking Coast Guard wannabe Ashton Kutcher and friends into shape. A near-remake of the classic An Officier and a Gentleman that's kept afloat by Costner's solid performance, authentic production values and a thoughtful script that doesn't sink into sentimentality.
