Review of The Guardian (2006) by Jason — 19 Jan 2009
This became an instant favorite the first time I saw it. I've always been a big fan of Kevin Costner movies, and the only branch of army-type careers I've ever really considered are Coast Guard ones, especially rescue swimmer, so this movie had a lot going for it before I even watched it.
It doesn't disappoint in any way. It's real exciting, sad, and compelling to watch how a cocky, young person who inspires to be a rescue swimmer who breaks all of Costner's old swimming records will mesh with the accomplished veteran who doesn't want to be a teacher or role model, and the ending's great.
One of the best movies ever of its type, and one that should be a lot more well known and talked about.
