The Guard is a fantastic, and unconventional, dark comedy that's sure to stir up conversation when the credits roll. The direction has style, with an attention to colour that's rarely taken advantage of.
The story is pretty basic, but that doesn't matter - nearly all of the enjoyment was in where the characters were going. Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle are a good (although intentionally awkward) pairing, with the former turning in one of the better performances of the year.
I waited for this for a long time, and I can safely say it exceeded my expectations. Don't miss it.
