Review of The Guard (2011) by Gary C — 12 Jul 2012
I haven't laughed this loud from a movie since, well, Hopscotch. Which was last week...but I laughed more often here, certainly. Note the similarities between the two movies' main roles, Hopscotch's Walter Matthau and Brendan Gleeson: Both are large authority figures with an effortless sense of humor, both take on harebrained plans to bring down some form of corruption, and both, shall we say, ensure each's own safety in the same manner toward the film's conclusion.
I hope I'm not giving away too much there. Fellow United Staters need watch it with subtitles to really savor every gut-busting lump of Irish-colored dialogue. And as if it wasn't already going to be one'ma personal favorites, they round it out with a John Denver surprise.
