Review of The Guard (2011) by David S — 29 Oct 2012
A very funny crime thriller in the same vein of 'In Bruges' (not surprising as it's made by McDonagh's brother!) but with a lighter feel. Gleeson is brilliant as the aforementioned Guard and it is his sarcastic and world weary manner that lifts the simple plot and makes the film work so well.
Cheadle is a good foil for him too and when you throw in Strong and Cunningham as the main heavies you've got a great cast who are obviously having a blast with the script and the situation. I'd love to see Gleeson's Guard in more films.
The guy is a comedy legend!
