Review of The Grudge 3 (2009) by Courtney T — 18 Oct 2009
Ju-on is my favorite scary movie of all time. I kind of liked the American remake, the Grudge, better because it explained a little more. Ju-on 2 is decent because it explains stuff from the first movie but adds needless characters.
The Grudge 2 is more the the same and therefore kind of crappy. But it was still Hollywood-ish: good special effects, acceptable acting and great suspense. I Netflixed the Grudge 3 hoping to be a little scared and maybe have some things further explained.
Oh no no no. This movie was awful. Just terrible. The story was rubbish, the acting was cringe worthy and the special effects were beyond fake-y. Kayako and little Toshio weren't even scary anymore.
Every time they appeared on screen it was like, "Oh great, here we go again for no conceivable reason." There was maybe two minutes of tension and 89 minutes of lame. The actors seemed like hybrids of other actors, poor man versions if you will.
The main girl looked like the child of Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Lively. Her brother looked like the love child of Joseph Finnes, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jessie Bradford. I enjoyed Shawnee Smith's performance, but maybe I'm biased because she was in Who's Harry Crumb.
What a lovable movie. Unlike the Grudge 3 which was crap, crap, crap.
