Review of The Grudge (2019) by Hellholehorror — 16 Feb 2022
It's not great and it rains a lot. Sometimes it looks real, sometimes it looks like a massive sprinkler. Certainly not as good as the first two American versions. Arguably better than the third American film.
The Japanese series has so many I not even going to draw any comparisons there. The first three credits were the same guy, he must be proud lol. The use of negative space, the sound design and the cinematography overall are excellent.
The final 20 minutes are thrilling. I did prefer it when it was creepy Japanese children rather than Jason Vorhees looking guys. This is very disappointing. The original films were entertaining but not the best, this is just uneven, I don't think it'll appeal to new buyers and it certainly won't reinvigorate the series.
Bring on the inevitable next reboot.
