Review of The Grudge (2004) by Heartless B — 15 Feb 2010
For any horror fans out there who have or want to see this- I wish to yell from the very mountain tops that not only is this film a bit of a wash (throw in happy, sappy couple, rinse and repeat) but it is also a re make of a MUCH better film.
A Japanese horror film- with ACTUAL Japanese people in it. The ONLY reason to prefer this over it (it's called "Ju-on", incidentally) is because you have a problem with foreign films or with subtitles.
In either cases, if you don't like either, I really do not wish to know you. Anyway, American horror versus Japanese is like pitting a rat against a saber-toothed tiger- one is horribly rinse-and-repeat, with a few daring exceptions, while the other is steeped in fables, legends, and some of the most FUCKED UP ghost stories that I have ever heard.
The only reason it is two stars in because of the instances in which it was actually influenced by its Japanese fore runner, and didn't have the American characters doing what they do best- which is being annoying.
