Review of The Grudge (2004) by Frisby 2 — 28 Jun 2014
The Grudge is a prime example of insulting horror movies, & also a movie that brought a whole new stupidity in a fanbase that likes to claim themselves as "horror fans". And to think this garbage will actually be getting a reboot.
What is "The Grudge"? It is a mediocre remake of a great Japanese horror movie that is more predictable than anything else. Scary? No. Laughable? Almost. Sucked? Yes! Basically when watching this film, you see almost the same thing as the original only with a white cast (no offense). Only 1 scene in this movie impressed me, & that was it. I would have given this movie a 10% but feeling pity for it, I gave it an extra 10%.
The fanbase likes to claim they are "avid horror fans" & pretend they know what they're talking about when it comes to the horror genre; even going as far as saying "The best horror movie since The Exorcist!". No real horror movie fan will make such asinine claims, much less say it's good or even scary. This movie sucks, & is just a "horror" movie for absolute pussies. If The Grudge managed to terrify you, then I'm certain you'll also find The Oogie Loves movie traumatizing.
The Grudge is an insulting entry in the horror genre, & its fanbase consists of morons who have no taste in horror movies. A handful of REAL horror movies (regardless of whether you think they're good or not): [Rec], The Orphanage, Carrie, Stephen King's IT, Trick r Treat, The Cabin in the Woods, The Exorcist, The Thing, The Ring, Sinister, The Others, & the Paranormal Activity movies. Those are genuine horror movies, & even if you didn't find them scary they're still superior to The Grudge (but just because it's scary doesn't automatically make it any good either).
This movie may not have been scary as I thought it would be, but after watching it on tv, I realized that today's horror movies are not even scary, let alone good. Sure many others are, but not this one. Effects were overused; in Ju-On they only used them on the necessary scenes, & that's all they needed to do. Some people like this remake so much better because it actually had some effects. Sorry that's not a reason to like it better than the original. And I've seen morons fans of this movie saying "The Ring" sucks & isn't scary but they think this one is good & scary; sorry, but they don't know what a good horror movie is.
Cast/Acting/Characters: I couldn't give a rat's ass about Sarah Michelle Gellar as a casting choice in this movie. She plays Karen, an annoying girl who doesn't have any real purpose in the movie, or even a personality. She does a decent job at her acting, but that didn't help her character. I don't even want to get to the others.
Plot/Story: The story is the same concept as the original, only this one is predictable, & it sucks. The story isn't at it's best, despite almost being good, the plot makes no sense, it's almost illogical, & not to mention there is almost no plot to find in here. But wait, this movie also has some plot lines from a different family, which isn't really worth talking about, & almost has nothing to do with the story.
Final summation, this movie sucks. If you want to waste time, then this movie is good for that. Nothing more...well unless you want to have some laughs as well, this movie is good for that too.
