Review of The Grudge 2 (2006) by Rachel W — 17 Sep 2008
It's a rare thing to come across a movie that's so totally unsatisfying. first of all it's not in the least bit scary, even to the average jr. high kid. this is probably it's most glaring error since if a movie this stupid isn't scary and is supposed to be a horror movie it really has no reason for existing. another huge problem is that this movie isn't actually one shitty movie...it's 3 of them that are told in such a confusing way that there's really almost no way to make sense of what's going on. every one of the plots is underdeveloped and full of holes (how come an old woman in rural japan knows fluent English even though she was a traditional folk healer? these an many other questions will plague you throughout this film). i'll give it one extra half a star because it had quite a few interesting shots (not scary shots, interesting shots), but not even the greatest cinematographer in history could rescue a movie from storytelling as bad as this.
Thinking back on it, I STILL have no idea what happened in 95% of this movie.
Possibly the number one reason why horror movies should never be PG13.
