Review of The Grudge 2 (2006) by Joe N — 29 Aug 2011

Although yes this is scary and jumpy at times, it's also overall pretty crap and I have plenty of problems with it. Firstly, why is everyone English? It's Japan! Even the clearly Japanese mother of Kayako (who we know speaks Japanese) speaks English! Secondly, the house was meant to have burnt down yet it's completely intact, just a bit charred.

And finally, how the hell did the sister become the new curse? How exactly did she die in a rage? Because I'm pretty sure that random dude at the end wasn't real. It makes absolutely NO sense.

I also don't like the acting, especially the girl who plays Miyuki, the fact most of it is rehashings of scenes from the first film, and hate the scene with the 3 girls in the school shrink's office.

This film's only redeeming factor is that it genuinely is scary sometimes, but that isn't enough to outweigh the negatives and shake off the sense of annoyance you feel all the way through.
