Review of The Grinch (2018) by Calvin E — 20 Dec 2018
This is somewhat a relative review, which I know is a bad habit, but I was expecting Grinch to be underwhelming based on tomato scores but it turned out to be good. Solid B. I think the first 5 minutes were a little rough as I didn't like the opening music and camera flying through town made me sick and was not fun to look at.
Also the narration and poetry of narration was distracting from the movie because it wasn't up to par. But the movie itself, strip away music and narration, was really really good. Good voice acting, animation and art direction deserves A- or A.
The Grinch, his little dog, the human-Seus characters, were all fun, beautifully depicted, wonderful color and art. The movie is short and sweet. I liked it. I could see wanting to watch it every Christmas, which I can't say for the live action Grinch.
Does it add much to the classic 30 minute animated story? Well - I don't really need to judge whether it was needed or how it compares to that and I will just judge it on its own merits.
