Review of The Grifters (1990) by Byron B — 11 Jul 2009
The reply when I asked the dude at the dvd shop if this was any good, "it's a classic." well, mister, so what? not all classics are great or to be lauded. i'd bet 50 cents he hasn't even watched it before.
The film definitely feels dated to me; the storyline etc is very 90s. angelica huston & annette bening were very competent in their respective roles, and looked really fab throughout the entire movie in 'em figure hugging dresses and outfits.
So, is the ending what it seems ? half of me can't quite dispel the nagging possibility that the whole thang was just a con after con after con.
