Review of The Grey (2012) by Derek B. C — 16 Feb 2013
I liked this movie far more than I expected. First, let me say this film has the most intense airplane crash scene I have ever seen. You feel the sense of desperation and terror on the plane before and during the crash.
If you have a fear of flying, this scene is not going to help! That same sense extends to the rest of the movie as the survivors are hunted by the pack of wolves. The setting in the harsh winter wilderness of Alaska is an ever-present character and the tension is underscored by a musical score that heightens the atmosphere.
The story itself is not all that deep - it has elements of Castaway sets into Alaska along with other "lost in the wilderness movies." Certain elements of the plot seem a little contrived. That all being said, I was engrossed in the story and felt for the men who survived.
When the final credits rolled, I sat there just blankly staring at the screen for a few minutes.
