Review of The Grey (2012) by Nicholas E — 23 Feb 2013
Incredible, 62% of Top Critics thought this was a good film! What has happened to film criticism? Where to start? I saw this film multiple times already. It's Jaws (1975) with wolves. Gee, then there was The Edge (1997) with Hopkins and Baldwin in EXACTLY the same plot with a bear, except the bear was real and gave a really good performance! Oh yes, then there was Alive (1993)! In this film the wolves attack like Batman as they swoop though the air from out of nowhere - sorry I forgot they were digital!
So is it not the point of film critics to evaluate a film based on it's place in the collective history of film? Yes. if you've ever read Kael and Sarris. Seems today's critics have sold out like all journalists! Thank God for Anthony Lane at the New Yorker. The last great film critic standing.
