Review of The Grey (2012) by Jack S — 25 Mar 2014
Ottway- "Live or die on this day. Live or die on this day".
This is not a feel good movie. Ottway is on the verge of killing himself (nice way to end the movie, jkjk). But he manages to keep himself alive. A part of this movie is similar to Non-Stop. (I can tell he obviously doesn't like to fly on planes). The plane crashes and he's like a couple of yards away from the crash site from the plane. He finds the survivors, they are all basically freaking out saying "What the F***? Just happened?! Holy F***"! Their struggling to find survival in the forest\mountains in the freezing cold, but they are CERTAINLY not alone. A pack of wolves or surrounding the whole land and area, looking for food. The movie goes on, one by one are eliminated, besides Ottway. The last 5 minutes are emotionally powerful. Spreading their wallets, pictures of their family, it's very touching. But then, wolves. Circling around him, growling for flesh. They all step back, because a couple of feet ahead of Ottway is the "Grey", the papa wolf of all packs. They have a stare down, but then, Ottway starts to get angry. He starts to break glass, the ends are all sharpened, like broken wine bottles. He has a flashback, him as a boy, with his father. His dad's a poet. "Live or day on this day". He's saying over and over again. Now, there is glass on his fist, staring at the wolf. He faces turns fierce, all red, like he's about to explode. Ottway growls and he runs to the wolf and it blacks out... Liam Neeson did what he does the best at, in one of his best performances ever. The Grey, is a aggressive yet powerful experience.
