Review of The Grey (2012) by Colin N — 18 Jul 2014
While films about people trying to survive extreme circumstances they're thrust into are a tried-and-true Hollywood trope, The Grey succeeds in being unique for using this well-tread base as a platform to examine existential existence in a godless universe.
No doubt this higher-brow approach to the idea puts some people off, especially due to the fact that, rather uncharacteristically for the genre in more modern times, the violent deaths are infrequent and not dwelt on for too long.
However, if you can appreciate the nuanced philosophical analysis, you'll be able to appreciate the film better than those sorts ever will.
