Review of The Grey (2012) by Eric B — 19 Dec 2014
The Grey remains a genuinely gripping survival story and a refreshing change from stale urban action flicks. Carnahan's best work since Narc, with a powerhouse performance by Neeson and real emotional heft.
A plane crashes and a group of survivals have to defend themselves from a pack (And more) of Wolves. It is a tense film and has better shocks than most horror which makes it a pleasant surprise. The characters might still be cliched but the actors are still good.
Although, if you've seen the edge, you'll know what to expect on a rough scale. This is up there with most survival films and Liam Neeson does a great job as the lead, bringing in emotion and heart to the film.
The ending is actually one of the most acceptable endings I'll ever see, yet without spoiling it, it's man vs. Dog, with no fight scene yet ends to let your imagination decide how it ends, normally that's quite annoying but it works on the bases of the film.
Great film but if you've seen the edge (I have too, by the way) then there won't be many surprises, I still enjoyed it though.
