Review of The Grey (2012) by Zenrobot — 28 Jan 2012
Rolled my eyes a few times. it actually hurt, I rolled them really hard. started talking about god and stuff. ehh....no real deep powerful insights on that front. i'd prefer if the dialogue hadn't ventured into its shallow metaphysical depths. lots of cliches.
The best thing the movie has going for it is the horror-genre like killings. they are almost all pop-outs, but still give you the rush that you pay for at the ticket counter. as a pure shock based thriller, you could do much worse than The Grey. but The Grey hopes to be more than that, and it slides by as an above average shock-thriller. but not above average. I could have used more wolf chases and bumps in the night. they should just gone full horror. note to self: if ever stuck in a forest surrounded by wolves just start a **** fire! wolves can't stand fire. doesn't matter how many of them there are, or how few of you....or that they were chasing you all the way into the woods to kill you and your friends. as long as you can quickly start a fire, you're good.
