Review of The Grey (2012) by Gimly M — 11 Nov 2018
Expected carnage and man vs wolves but what I got was a film with depth and complexity. Survival films are a dime a dozen but Neeson gives this added depth and one his better recent films. The cliche dramatic scenes are there and often bore but they don't subtract from the menacing harshness of the film.
The final moments of the film are strong and may annoy your typical film audience but it was fitting for the film, in this modern market its nice to see a film not spell it out for us. The cast is solid and quite unknown bit players which was interesting compared to the usual film of this nature.
The filmmaking is right on the money and Carnahan shows he has much more depth compared to the A-Team film he created. Not a film if you want brainless storytelling, this is a thinking mans survival story and it is grim and unfair.
10/11/18.
