Review of The Green Knight (2021) by Herrnewbenmeist — 21 Aug 2021
For me, it was a pallid, joyless affair that stitched together sequences of blunt metaphors without much care for what their purpose was or whether they made narrative sense.
I like the source material, although I wouldn't be against modifying it. Here though, the original themes are thrown out and just a little of the setting is roughly used.
The pompous arthouse titlecards are the cherry on top. I don't need enormous blocks of art noveau text announcing a twee intertitle every ten minutes, thank you.
To reviewers who say anything along the lines of "The people who gave this movie a bad review were mad that they had to use their brains for once," you're the emperor in his new clothes, but without the imperial title. I guess you're just naked idiots.
People who like this movie and don't feel the need to bag on others, you're cool.
