Review of The Green Knight (2021) by Originate — 30 Jul 2021

This film is a triumph of cinema. I can't think of a movie I walked away from feeling more impressed with within the past three years as a minimum. It certainly wasn't a perfect 100, but my quibbles were so minimal they're barely worth mentioning.

This movie balances somewhere between The Seventh Seal and Willow. A wildly ambitious, epic adventure with the spirit and playfulness of willow tempered by the thoughtful and meditative nature of siloed encounters found in The Seventh Seal.

Each encounter within his journey is a trial to overcome and a virtue with which to imbue himself. Some are overcame and some are succumbed to mixed with a little accidental psychedelic trip. The acting is fantastic.

The use of visual texture and impeccable lighting deserves special attention. Not only should this film be watched a second time, it should be studied and aspired to by film makers for decades or longer.
