Review of The Green Inferno (2013) by Jonathan A — 01 Oct 2015
Brutal? Yes. Plausible story? Yes.
It is no Academy award winner but it does what it sets out to do. It makes you cringe but the director knows when to dial it back a few notches.
Decent acting. Terrific practical effects. Good special effects and excellent cinematography. The movie feels less like a low budget movie that hits a triple but more like a big budget film that hits a double.
The movie's only real weakness is the ambiguous ending. I definitely think most of the negative reviews stem from the fact that this is a cannibal movie with extreme scenes of violence.
If viewed critically, one has to appreciate the terrific directing. The airplane crash alone is worth seeing. Definitely one of the most realistic representations ever put on film.
For it's genre.... 4 out of 5 stars.
