Review of The Green Inferno (2013) by Josh E — 10 Oct 2015
Brutal and disturbing yet flawed reboot of Cannibal Holocaust. Roth is actually at his most restrained leaving his typically idiosyncratic characters on the sidelines for a more straightforward horror film.
It has a brutally honest commentary on the state of activism today which I loved but it still all feels like a lost opportunity. There was room here to make something truly incredible; he follows all the beats of the Italian cannibal gore-fests that he's inspired by but very rarely builds upon them; merely offering a shinier bloody paint job.
