Review of The Green Inferno (2013) by Lovro H — 15 Oct 2015
I don't really know why, but I really enjoy "torture porn" movies. I like it when a horror movie pushes boundaries and The Green Inferno is not an exception! Eli Roth's "latest" movie feels a lot like an hommage to Cannibal Holocaust and other similiar movies.
Despite not being having the most original story, this movie was a blast! The movie is about some activists trying to save the rainforest by going to the rainforest they're trying to save and chaining themselves up to the bulldozers and trees.
It eventually does the trick, but on their way back home, the plane crashes and they're left to mercy of the tribe that finds them. Unlucky for our main characters, the tribe turns out to be a crazy, sick, cannibalistic tribe.
Also one of the problems of the movie is that it takes too long to get to the actual torture part. We spend about 40 minutes following the activists just protesting and stuff. It's a bit of a slow build, but I'd say it was worth it.
The gore in the movie was amazing! It looks very real and just jaw-dropping! I wish they had more scenes with the gore, though. The movie shows a lot, but I feel like it should've made the scenes longer or just put more of them.
The movie itself also looks beautiful. It's very colorful and the scenery looks amazing. I always appreciate when a movie is shot on actual locations, rather than set pieces. The acting was sometimes a bit off, but the actors played their roles perfectly.
There are quite a few likeable characters, and it's possible to even care for them. The ending was weird, didn't quite expect that kind of an ending, but the 'inbetween' credits scene was great and now I wish there will be a sequel! All in all, a great horror movie that is highly intense and above all, gory.
I would recommend if a fan of Eli Roth and movies like Cannibal Holocaust!
