Review of The Green Inferno (2013) by Conner K — 16 Oct 2015
A beautiful social commentary in the homage of Italian cannibal films, Green Inferno is what happens when you put a bunch of greenies/SJWs into the Amazon and get eaten alive by the natives they wanted to help. It follows a similar style Roth used in Hostel (obnoxious characters who deserved what was coming for them, sticky situations, gruesome deaths) but with a less savoury performance due the fresh new faces being cast. But honestly, it's impossible to feel any sympathy for the characters, each death was a cheer.
The story itself moved a bit slower than expected, the first 40 minutes were used to just establish how spoiled these brats really are, unlike Cannibal Holocaust, the story telling was so smooth that you feel like you knew the characters before their ultimate demise.
As to the music, it was quite inappropriate, to me it sounded more like an Indiana Jones film than a horror film. The natural sound was too obvious, it lacked the realism that could really make this film less campy.
I can't stop praising how Roth had captured the essence of the fascists, the writing was top of the notch. Aside from these downfalls and less than satisfactory ending, it is the future of slasher, that is, letting the people you actually hate get killed. Thank you Eli Roth, haters gonna hate.
