Review of The Green Hornet (2011) by Mike S — 20 Jul 2014
This film can't decide whether it's a comedy spoof about crime fighters or a serious action film about crime fighters. Seth Rogen is his usual ignorant slacker character, only this time he's the spoiled son of a wealthy newspaper owner.
When dad dies, Rogen discovers that his auto mechanic is also a martial arts master and a weapons designer. Together, they decide to right wrongs by committing other wrongs, like assault, murder, and arson.
They fight and bicker all the time, but not in a funny way. The script and the direction make these characters mean-sprited. Christoph Waltz turns in a nice performance as a crime lord who worries that he's not scary enough.
Aside from him, this movie is a dud.
