Review of The Green Butchers (2003) by Chris R — 27 Sep 2007
This is one of those films I kind of found by accident. I was shopping one day, found it on a shelf, read the back and that was pretty much it. Ingeinius marketing, that's what a DVD cover is supposed to do, sell it self.
Of course it could have been really s**t and I would of looked like a right muppet trying to bring it back to the store, pretending theres something wrong with it, rather than admit that i'm a compulsive buyer of films and that perhaps on this occasion I may have been wrong.
Luckily for me I was right, this is a great film from Denmark which plays like the greatest movie the Coen Brothers never made. It Tells the story of two friends Svend & Bjarne who open up a butcher's to rival that of their old boss.
At first business is slow untill Svend accidentally locks a worker in the freezer over night only to find him in the morning. Svend gets rid of the body the best way he knows how and pretty soon business is booming and their shop is the talk of the town.
This is a very funny and often heart warming film about friendship, family and wanting to succeed in life. Altough it is a very dark comedy you some how fell good come the end of the film. I recommend this flick to anyone who loves the Coen Brothers or any great comedy movies, that might make you laugh at things you feel you probably should'nt be laughing at.
A great find.
