Review of The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) by Sean W — 20 Jan 2008
Beautifully shot, lovely score, bland movie. Not to mention the random Hollywood cameos that are way too distracting -- Sidney Poitier is the worst. In a movie without one African American, suddenly he appears to help Max Von Sydow carry the cross? Although people complain about John Wayne as a Roman Centurian, but that I didn't mind so much.
This is definitely a movie to see on the big screen. It was shot in a large film format, and on TV, even letterboxed, it suffers greatly -- that is if you can actually sit through it without falling asleep.
