Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Iain D — 18 Feb 2018
While I did enjoy this film with all the stars performances and the good soundtrack I do have to say it has flaws. One the story here is a rags to riches tale while the life of the real P.T. Barnum wasn't like that and the story here is told very clumsily.
Two the conflict that could have been really engaging and interesting commentary gets rather glanced over or solved in a few minutes. Three (this is a nit-pick really) while I've nothing against Rebecca Fergusson the real Jenny Lind was known as The Swedish Nightingale and was one of the worlds leading sopranos while here she's an alto.
Four the songs while great most don't fit in with the time period as they sound like La La Land meets the circus. For those who liked this film more power to you and for those who didn't my suggestion is to check out the musical "Barnum" with Michael Crawford and hopefully enjoy the circus musical story of P.
T. Barnum that you were hoping for.
