Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Paul B — 18 Mar 2018
Think Sing (the animated movie with the singing animals) mixed with the production values of The X-Factor and you have the Greatest Showman. It's not terrible but the plot is very cliched and with the exception of Hugh Jackman's character, no one else really gets any sort of development.
You really have to take this a passion project for Jackman and a total work of fiction as the real P.T Barnham wasn't a particularly nice person and had this been a real historic account I feel there would have been fewer ballads and more slavery.
I do however see it's appeal, our screen was packed with families and young girls (thankfully it wasn't a sing-along version, not sure I could bare that) and it kind of has a message of hope attached.
