Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by John W — 31 Mar 2018
Going into The Greatest Showman, I did not have very high expectations due to the so-so reviews, and I did not come out disappointed but I did not come out beyond excited. The story was semi-interesting, but because the film was so focused on having beautiful songs, it almost forgot about its plot, resulting in messy storytelling.
Now, the songs were phenomenal and extremely catchy, but sometimes, a little repetitive. The movie was entertaining, however, and it mostly keep me engaged for an hour and forty-five minutes but one thing that bothered me was how different it was from the trailer.
After the film, I immediately re-watched the trailer and several great lines were not in the movie, which was a little disappointing to me. In the end, The Greatest Showman had phenomenal music and many entertaining moments as well as fine performances, but with giant plot holes, messy storytelling, and frequent use of distracting green screen, it definitely wasn't fabulous.
- 60%.
