Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Kent H — 16 Mar 2018
Exceptionally entertaining. Fun foot stomping music - I would even buy the soundtrack and I really never do that. Excellent acting. This is so much better than LaLa Land that I would not even put LaLa Land with its one redundant and repetitive sone in the same excellent category as this show with a dozen great songs.
And the dancing scenes are wonderful both as to the energy and choreography and talent -- again far superior to the few small dance numbers in LaLa Land. I guess the story is too straight forward, uplifting and too much fun for critics to like it.
But I'm getting to the point that if the so-called professional critics like a move too much, I figure I, along with the majority of normal movie goers, are not going to like it The high rating of the public for The Greatest Showman in contrast to the rating of the oh so sophisticated professional reviewers just proves the point.
The irony is that the nemesis of P.T. Barnum in the show is a foolish theater critic that doesn't get it either.
