Review of The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) by Kyle V — 15 Aug 2009
The film's main goal, I think, was to capture the circus for the big screen, but for those that just NEED and crave a plot, they throw a little plot elements in the film as well.
Now the circus stunts and tricks are AMAZING to watch this day and age in which we've kind of forgotten about the joys that the big top brought a community back in these days, when Youtube and basic cable television weren't around to show astounding human feats to people.
To me thought, the circus tricks still AMAZE me. I never have seen anything like some of the well choreographed stuff i've seen, from the clown acts, to the dogs on horses.
The point that brough me down on the rating, was the fact that some of the characters just didn't interst me. The only acting I really liked was from James Stewart as the clown fugitive who's on the run from the law and wears his clown make-up as a cover. Charlton Heston mostly just yelled alot and was a jerk, but had a few moments.
Overall, it's enjoyable. It's a reminder of what was once The Greatest Show on Earth.
