Review of The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005) by Scott W — 17 Apr 2009
For me, it's hard to go wrong with an inspirational sports movie. Especially one that's about golf. And if you think about something like this happening nowadays it's inconceivable. That being said, the movie is strongest when it's not on the golf course.
The battle between Ouimet and his family, and the upper class, and the scenes with Harry Vardon are great. But I wasn't crazy about how the golf was filmed. At times especially in the first 2 rounds you couldn't even tell who was where.
And there was way too much trying to jazz up golf with different creative shots. Stick to the basics and let the story tell itself!
